All about our Choir

A welcome from Nicola Starkie, our Musical Director

Whether you’d like to sing with us, come to a performance or you’re just interested to know what’s going on in the local area, I’d love you to meet Quinton Community Choir!

I have lived in Quinton for over 20 years and set the choir up back in 2006 in order to encourage singing in our community. It’s been wonderful to see the choir grow to well over 80 members, to hear how it’s come on musically and to get to know so many great people. We’re a very friendly choir and many of our singers have made lasting friendships, looking out for one another through life’s highs and lows.

Some people join us having never sung in a choir before and others are very experienced singers, but everyone enjoys creating a fantastic sound together. We sing a wide range of music – pop, jazz, gospel, classical and songs from around the world.

Over the years we’ve enjoyed giving concerts and performing at community events in Quinton and Birmingham centre, often raising money for charity. We also run a project with local schools called 'Quinsound' which has become a flagship event.

We've had some brilliant opportunities to perform with other musical groups and solo artists too. For several years, we’ve taken part in ‘Community Spirit’, a joint project with other choirs from around the West Midlands culminating in a concert at Symphony Hall which is a real highlight of the year for so many of our singers. In 2022 we have joined a few select choirs that have performed at the Commonwealth Games 2022 Opening Ceremony!

If you’d like to know more about the choir or to try a rehearsal, do get in touch or come along on a Monday evening. You’ll find more information on the “Join Us” page.
